Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children’s learning. At South Eastern Regional College we understand that some parents may have difficulty supporting their children’s learning because they lack the skills needed to help with school homework or their own experience of school was not positive.
To help try and address this, the Adult Education Team at SERC have developed a course called ‘Restart Education’. Providing support to parents, this free course builds skills in literacy, numeracy, science, IT, personal development, social science and study skills. We welcome adults who have been out of education for some time and with small classes and supportive staff individuals quickly grow in confidence and skills. For parents, it can mean the whole family benefits as they start to enjoy learning and then share their learning at home.
‘Restart Education’ is offered on a part-time basis at our Downpatrick campus on Market Street. A new daytime course is commencing at the end of October 2022 and classes will run on Mondays and Wednesdays with times scheduled to fit around family life. The course will also be offered in the evenings with classes running on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There may also be financial support available to help with additional costs parents may incur e.g., childcare/travel.
We are asking for your help to promote the ‘Restart Education’ course to the pupils’ parents at St Joseph’s Primary School. We are hosting a drop-in coffee morning at our campus on Monday 17th October 2022, 9.30am-11am. This will be an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the course, meet teaching and support staff, see our facilities and receive help with their application should they wish to apply.
To assist us raise awareness of this opportunity we would be grateful if you could please share our promotional leaflet? Also, if there are any opportunities to meet parents for an informal chat, either at the school gates handing out leaflets or otherwise please let me know.
