DOMESTIC ABUSE
The increase in reported incidents of domestic abuse during Covid 19 lockdown is a real concern. Today we include:
A The most statistics from PSNI and NISRA, available on the link below
B Information on an exciting new resource from Women’s Aid for the women who are victims of Domestic abuse.
WOMEN’S AID has launched a NEW web chat service for women suffering domestic abuse.
The web chat comes in anticipation of an increase in service demand as the current lockdown restrictions are eased and will allow women to access immediate support and referral to lifesaving, crisis accommodation and outreach services, without having to pick up the phone
It is hoped the new facility will help women reach out where a phone call is not a safe or viable option.
· The web chat is accessible at www.belfastwomensaid.org.uk
· The web chat will available live every Monday to Friday 10am to 12 noon. (Outside those hours, requests can still be submitted and will be responded to when possible. https://belfastwomensaid.org.uk/launch-of-new-web-chat-service/
C The Department of Health have provided this link to a variety of resources and agencies. We would highlight the resources specifically for youth people.

DIGITAL SAFETY
1 SOCIAL MEDIA STORIES
The ‘story’ feature on social media platforms provides an outlet for children and young people to ‘tell their stories’ and update friends about their lives, by posting pictures and videos on their profiles, just like a digital diary. In this way social media has greatly enhanced the visual and symbolic representations of young lives.
Follow the link to a short guide, which will introduce you to the world of social media stories. The purpose of this guide is to give parents, carers and safeguarding professionals the tools and knowledge to ensure that children in their care use social media stories in a safe way.
2 LIVE STREAMING SO
Live streaming technology lets you watch, create and share videos in real time, a bit like live TV. All you need to be able to live stream is an internet enabled device, like a smart phone or tablet, and a platform (such as a website or app) to live stream from.
Th have a more positive online experience.
Follow the Think u Know link to find out why live streaming is popular, why it is risky for young people and how we can help young people stay safe while live streaming

LGBTQ
It is important for everyone who works with young people to both educate themselves, and the young people in their care on the LGBTQ community.
For teachers, safeguarding professionals and parents/carers, Ineqe’s Contextual Safeguarding Factsheet provides you with the information you need in order to best respond to the needs of LGBTQ young people. The Pride Resource Pack provides secondary-aged pupils with facts, written activities and key discussion opportunities on Pride and the LGBTQ community.
Both resources can be found by following the link https://ineqe.com/2020/06/10/pridepack/
NEGLECT
The Children’s Society has published a very interesting briefing that explores the challenges that adolescents and their parents face during the Covid-19 pandemic. It offers advice for professionals on how to reduce the likelihood of adolescent neglect occuring or to mitigate its effects. It includes sound advice that safeguarding staff in schools may wish to implement now. It will also increase staff awareness, when schools reopen, of the signs that an adolescent may have been neglected during lockdown and how to address that concern. As there is no link the briefing is provided as an attachment.
