Prize winners from St Joseph’s

7th Jun 2022

We have had many prize winners over the last few weeks and months.

On 1st April Mrs Porter was contacted to say that two pupils from the school who had entered the Northern Ireland Anti Bullying Competition had woin prizes out of over 180 entries. Amber in P4 won with her 'One Kind Word' poem and Evie in P6 won with her 'One Kind Word' Rap. They both won a £30 voucher each. Super work from both girls.

On the 7th April, the children in P4&5 entered the Newsdesk Titanic Stories competition. The P4 children had to fdesign a storyboard telling the story of the sinking of the Titanic wheras the P5 children had to write a diary account about it. This was also open to every school in Northern Ireland. The Newsdesk Editor contacted Mrs Porter to say that Jamie in P4 was named highly commended as his entry was excellent and had been in the running for winning. We are all delighted with Jamie's achievements.

On 1st June Mrs Porter was contacted in relation to the Platinum Jubilee Rug Competition with the Northern Ireland Office to say that Thomas in P5's rug design is in the top 30 out of over 2000 entries from all over Northern Ireland! Thomas’ design was chosen from over 2000 others for its quality, creativity and remarkable imagination in providing a snapshot of Northern Ireland. They will be publicly announcing Thomas’ entry along with the other 29 designs which have been shortlisted on Thursday 2 June with the final three designs chosen by Ulster Carpets over the coming weeks. They hope to announce the winner in early July. The winning design will then be transformed by Ulster Carpets into a magnificent rug and showcased in Northern Ireland and sent to Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The winner will get the chance to work with Ulster Carpets over the summer in developing the design as well as seeing the manufacturing process at their state-of-the-art facilities in Portadown. The completed rug will be unveiled in the autumn at a special ceremony to include the winning pupil’s class, teacher and head teacher. Amazing work Thomas.

Congratulations also to Leah and Aoife who won medals and trophies at their dancing competition last weekend and Darcie who won a medal at gymnastics recently.

Well done to the pupils named above for all their hard work and creativity. We are all super proud of them here in St Joseph's. What an achievement for such a small school.
