You may be aware that the Minister of Education has agreed the development and
delivery of a Platinum Jubilee Education Programme to mark Her Majesty The
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Jubilee Education Programme will comprise of a number of projects including a
Jubilee Poetry Writing Competition for all pupils. The aim of the competition is to
give pupils the opportunity to create a piece of poetry around The Queen and the
Jubilee celebrations.
The poem competition will be open to pupils in all pre-school / nursery settings,
primary, post-primary, special schools and EOTAS. There will be five age categories
(Pre-School and Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and Key
Stage 4 / Post-16) and also primary and post-primary categories for Special School
pupils.
Prizes of £200, £150 and £100, along with an engraved trophy and certificate, will be
awarded for first, second and third in each category. The school of the overall winner
will also receive £1000 to spend on materials for pupils. The winners will be selected
by a judging panel.
In addition, a celebration event for the competition winners will be held in the Long
Gallery in Parliament Buildings in June 2022.
This project and all of the other projects in the Jubilee Education Programme link
directly to the Northern Ireland Curriculum and have the potential to enhance teaching
and learning opportunities for all pupils. Importantly they will allow school communities
to come together in a spirit of fun and friendship.
The closing date for entries to the poetry competition is 30 May 2022. The attached

entry rules.
