Newry, Mourne and Down Active Travel Public Survey

1st Mar 2021

See Email from Sustrans

Dear Teachers and Principals,

I hope you’re having a good day. Some interesting reading below and also an opportunity for your local area to play a part in a consultation, the responses of which will be used to inform and shape the Active Travel Masterplan on what the Council can do to make it easier for residents to travel more actively for work, education, leisure and everyday journeys which can help tackle Climate Change.

Sustrans is working with Newry Mourne and Down District Council to explore ways in which the council area could improve active travel options, such as cycling and walking to meet the needs of local residents, businesses and school pupils. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has launched an online public consultation to find out residents’ views on Active Travel in the district.

The Council recognises the need to move to more sustainable low carbon transport, which includes making improvements to cycling and walking infrastructure within the district area.

Here is the Sustrans new story for a bit further background too -  https://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-blog/news/2021/february/sustrans-partner-with-newry-mourne-and-down-district-council-to-improve-active-travel

There is a good section on safety around schools in the survey as well as wider area intervention suggestions. A great opportunity for people to feedback to the council. And we could possibly use some of the results to illustrate need for infrastructure in and around the school community also.

It would be great if you could forward on this information to colleagues, parents and carers to give them an opportunity to have their say in what could shape the future of sustainable transport and better infrastructure in the NM&D council area.

Best wishes
