Library visit and trip to Mabel’s

4th Oct 2022

Yesterday the boys and girls enjoyed a highly informative and fun trip to the library in Downpatrick where they learned a lot. They learned about where to find the spine of the book, the author, illustrator, the blurb and even read some blurbs to see if they could guess which famous books they were from. They learned how the fiction books are arranged in alphabetical order using the authors surname and how non fiction information books are arranged in a numerical system called the Dewey Decimal System and found out where this name came from. They were even allowed to browse and read some books before some children took some books home with them using their library cards. If your child would like a library card all you need to do is fill in a short form at the library and then they will receive their card. Each person is allowed nine books at a time for three weeks. It’s well worth a visit and has lots of activities on at Halloween plus a Lego club for children ages 7-11 every 3rd Monday of the month from 3.30-4.30pm but you must book.

The children also enjoyed their trip to Mabel’s for an ice cream treat. Thanks to the families who have sent money in for these ice creams. They are certainly going down a treat so far. Have a look at the images attached.
